Writing

Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar

Children are taught Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar throughout Primary School and are tested at the end of year 6.

Composition

Children are taught to plan, draft and edit their writing before publishing it.  Lots of schools refer to this as the 'writing cycle'.

Children are also taught to take inspiration from books and other writing similar to that which they are planning to write.

How to Help Your Child at Home

Reading, reading and more reading!  Encouraging your child to read and reading with and to your child will help them significantly with their writing.

Often children like to read the same book several times over, this is no problem.  In fact, this is great because they are learning and memorising language structures and spellings with out realising.

Writing with Step into Tuition

Becky loves teaching writing and has an excellent record of developing the writing of children with a range of abilities.  She is able to engage reluctant writers and believes writing can be fun and exciting.

Becky also enjoys teaching Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.  She teaches this both as part of the writing process but also as discrete lessons.  Becky uses various teaching methods including 'Talk for Writing' and colourful semantics.
