Reading

Early Readers

Children who are new to reading start by 'reading' books with no words.  They are taught how to handle and ''use' a book and they are taught to 'read' the pictures.  This develops their inference skills and encourages 'reading for meaning'.

More Advanced Readers

As children progress with their reading, they move from segmenting and blending words to being able to read with fluency.  Once this is achieved, children work on their expression and intonation.

Children continue to build on their comprehension skills.

How To Help Your Child At Home

Read with and to your child as well as encouraging your child to read independently.

It is really important that your child has understood what they have read so remember to ask lots of questions!

Reading With Step Into Tuition

Becky has taught Reading in British Primary schools from year 1 children who have never read before to year 6 children who are advanced readers.  She has worked with children who are very able readers and also children who have additional needs and struggle with their reading.

Becky will be able to assess your child's reading level and advise on their next steps.  She will use engaging and interesting texts to develop and support your child's reading.  Becky will encourage your child to foster a love of reading and ensure that they make excellent progress.
